The NBA has seen its fair share of legendary athletes in its time, so it is always going to be hard to pin down the best player of all time, but here is a small list of players that are definitely up for contention in the wide world of basketball, and the information given shows a clear reason why their inclusion is justified.

  • John Stockton

Diminutive (6’1’’) Stockton is known as one of the greatest point guards of all time and currently has the record for the most assists in NBA History with 15,806 (10.5 assists per game). Stockton played for Utah Jazz from 1984 until 2003. He is a 10 x NBA All-Star (1989-1997, 2000), and his number 12 was retired by Utah Jazz in 2004 after his retirement as a show of respect. He also has a street named after him in Salt Lake City as well as a statue of him in front of Vivint Arena.

  • Wilt Chamberlain

Wilton Norman Chamberlain, born in 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is definitely up for contention for the GOAT. He is the only player in the NBA to score 100 points in one game and that was in 1962 against the New York Knicks. He was 7’1’’ and had amazing agility and strength which he brought to the game with no apologies due to his well-documented dominance. He consistently averaged 40 to 50 points a game a season during his 14-year tenure with the NBA and players both former and current widely regard him as the greatest basketball player of all time. If you were to look at the NBA odds during the days when Chamberlain was playing it would be a safe bet to back him and whatever team he was playing on. A very small example of his accolades includes 4 x NBA Most Valuable Player (1960, 1966-1968), 13 x NBA All-Star (1960-1969, 1971-1973), 7 x NBA scoring champion (1960-1966), and 11 × NBA rebounding champion (1960–1963, 1966–1969, 1971–1973).

  • Scottie Pippen

Part of the powerhouse that was the 1990s Chicago Bulls, Pippen was also part of the USA 1992 Olympic “Dream Team”. Along with Jordan, Pippen was a major contributor to the success of the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s. He is considered one of the greatest small forwards of all time and helped the Chicago Bulls win 6 NBA championships. His skill as a defender was unsurpassed and his approach to the game as a team player was what helped lead the Chicago Bulls to so much success. His record of 6,135 total assists during his career, which is 23rd of all time, cements that fact.

  • Steph Curry

Wardell Stephen Curry II has been playing with the Golden State Warriors since 2009 and as of 2022, is still a current member of the team. He was born into the game with his father Dell Curry having played in the NBA before him, mostly with the Charlotte Hornets. Steph has managed an impressive career with accolades such as NBA Most Valuable Player in 2015 and 2016, as well as being a 4 x NBA Champion (2015, 2017, 2018, 2022).
